Course Overview
The programme is designed to build upon the subject areas studied in Metallurgical Science 1. This module looks at another 6 key elements enabling your engineers to understand metallurgical and scientific principles in their broader context and where to apply this knowledge.

This Module prepares your engineer to "step up" to Higher Education and introduce academic rigour and independent study to their mini work-based projects and assignments.

Course Content
Students will be supported throughout their distance/blended learning programme via their designated Lead Academic, web-conferencing facilities, workshops and their in-house Industrial Mentor.

Recrystallisation and Grain Growth
Introduction to Metallography
Introduction to Non-Destructive Testing
Common Defects in Metals
Industrial Alloy Systems
Metallurgical & Mechanical Properties - Standards & Failures

The full Module includes the student undertaking a Mini Work-Based Project

Entry Level
Students will be in full time employment within the industry some knowledge and experience of metallurgy processes.
Functional Skills in Mathematics and English (Level 2)

To have undertaken Metallurgical Science 1 or equivalent covering all the elements set out in the Course Module
​
Students will provide a copy of their CV, qualifications and any other training certificates together with a letter of application explaining how the course will benefit them and their future career goals. This information, along with visits to the workplace will be assessed by our Admissions Team.

Duration: 12 Weeks - to run concurrently with the Mini Work-Based Project Module being 15 Weeks
